How to Help

A small act can make a meaningful difference in the lives of people suffering from rare bone marrow diseases and blood disorders. We encourage you to consider helping in these ways as a tribute to Amber’s memory.

Donate Blood

Many people with aplastic anemia require blood transfusions during their illness to counteract low blood cell counts. Donating blood is easy, safe, and can be a lifesaving gift. In addition to helping people with blood disorders and bone marrow diseases, blood transfusions are also needed for people going through cancer treatment, surgery and traumatic injuries.

Many consider donating blood at the San Diego Blood Bank or American Red Cross.

Join the Bone Marrow Registry

The only cure for aplastic anemia is a bone marrow transplant. Most of the patients diagnosed each year with blood cancers and blood diseases do not have a matched family donor. Be The Match connects patients with matching donors for lifesaving marrow transplants. A simple cheek swab is all it takes to join the registry.
